Blue Water Timber Products provides professional timber harvesting services for private landowners and crown land operations across Simcoe County and Central & Southern Ontario. As a full-service log harvesting contractor, we manage every phase of the timber harvesting process, from the initial property walk-through to the final log delivery at the mill.
Whether you need selective harvesting to thin your woodlot, tree removal for specific species, or a complete harvest of mature timber, our experienced crew and modern equipment deliver results efficiently and responsibly.
Our Timber Harvesting Process
1
Property Evaluation & Timber Cruising
Every project begins with Jim Moffatt walking your property to evaluate your standing timber. We assess species composition, tree health, volume, accessibility, and market value. This evaluation is provided at no cost and with no obligation.
2
Certified Tree Marking
Before any cutting begins, certified tree markers identify which trees should be harvested. This process ensures we take the right trees, removing diseased specimens and selectively harvesting mature timber while preserving the health and structure of your forest for the future.
3
Harvesting & Felling
Our crew uses a state-of-the-art mechanical harvester to fell marked trees with precision. This method significantly reduces stand damage compared to traditional chainsaw felling, protecting surrounding trees and minimizing disturbance to the forest floor.
4
Skidding & Extraction
Once felled, trees are extracted from the harvest area using skidders. We build temporary access routes as needed to reach the timber, and we take care to minimize impact on your property during this phase.
5
Processing & Log Sorting
At the landing, a CAT excavator equipped with a hydraulic saw bucks the trees into their highest-value products. Logs are sorted on site into categories based on species and grade:
- Veneer Logs: The highest grade, used for decorative wood surfaces
- Saw Logs: Used for dimensional lumber and construction materials
- Pallet Logs: Processed into industrial shipping pallets
- Firewood Products: Cut to length for commercial or residential use
6
Trucking & Delivery to Market
Blue Water Timber Products operates its own log truck, allowing us to deliver products directly to sawmills, veneer plants, and other timber processors across Ontario. By controlling our own logistics, we maintain quality from forest to facility and ensure your timber reaches the buyers who will pay the most for it.
Private Land & Crown Land Harvesting
Blue Water Timber Products harvests timber from both private lands and crown lands across Ontario. All crown land operations are overseen by by-law officers for each county and district, and we maintain full compliance with all regulatory requirements. Whether your timber is on a privately owned woodlot or a crown land allocation, we have the experience and credentials to handle the job professionally.
